The people of Ishi-ozalla Autonomous Community in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State have raised alarm over plan by few influential individuals to impose a traditional ruler on them against the wishes of the people, and appealed to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State for his intervention to avert imminent social strife and power tussle crisis in the community.
A statement signed by the President General of the Community, Mr Obinna Nvene, said any imposition of a traditional ruler on the people would amount to age long crisis in the area.
According to him, the community will not recognize any person imposed on them and appealed to the Ministry of Chieftaincy Matters to allow due process in the election of Igwe in the area as that would enthrone peace, Justice, and equity.
Mr Nvene who explained that the town Union is currently resolving some crises rocking the community, ranging from social discrimination, segregation among others, wondered why the Ministry of Chieftaincy Matters want to ignore these issues and plan to conduct a premature election.
He further stated that conducting the said Igweship election would amount to excluding more than six villages from the community in the name of free born and slaves (osu caste system) which runs against the letters and spirit of the 1999 constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria (as amended).
The people of the community appealed to Governor Ugwuanyi whom they described as a God-fearing father to save the Community from the impending doom staring menacingly at them.
