The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) has blamed the persisting blackout in Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River and Rivers on system collapse from the National Grid.
Mr John Onyi, Manager of Corporate Communications, PHED, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Port Harcourt on Thursday.
He, however, assured that the company was taking steps to quickly restore electricity to customers in the affected states.
“The system collapse from the national grid that occurred at 2p.m. on Dec. 11, led to total electricity blackout in Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross Rivers and Rivers states.
“The cause of the grid collapse has not been ascertained as at the time of making this announcement.
“However, PHED is making efforts to establish contact with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) on the remote cause,” he said.
Onyi appealed to customers to bear with the company and TCN for the inconveniences the outage may cause during the period repair of the facility would last. (NAN)
